A ship of the Tudor Navy, the Mary Rose sailed from 1511-1545 while proudly defending the English against France, Scotland and Brittany. She was a warship for Henry VIII for 34 years and lost on July 19th, 1545. On May 5th, 1971, three of her port frames were discovered by a diver. Excavation began in 1979, and it wasn't 1982 that the largest surviving part of the ship was raised. There are still significant remains of the Mary Rose still buried in the seabed. This archealogical find is a wonderful example of the era and what can be done when developing a purposefully built ship for war. Our commemorative replica compass is all brass with a copper dial. Built into and under the compass is a swing out magnifier. It sits in a faux leather case embossed with the ship's name and dates when she was in service.
